Prerequisites
- A PC running Microsoft Windows XP or Vista.
- Google Earth installed (click here to download your free copy of Google Earth).
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5. This will be downloaded as part of the installation process if you do not already have this installed. However, if you wish to install this separately you can do so here.
Installation
You should install Map My Ancestors as a user with Administrative priviledges. With Microsoft Windows XP this means you should be logged on as an administrative user. With Microsoft Windows Vista you will be asked for an administrative account username and password if you are logged on as a non-administrative user.The Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 can take some time to install (half an hour wouldn't be unusual). If the installation should fail, reboot and install it separately using the above link.
If you are running Microsoft Windows Vista and the installation still fails, reboot and try again. If you are still having problems you may need to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1. Use Microsoft Windows Update to install SP1.

Map My Ancestors has been tested with GEDCOM files produced by the following programs -
- Family Tree Maker (FTW/FTM)
- Rootsmagic (including custom tags for Latitude and Longitude)
- Legacy (including custom tags for Latitude and Longitude)
- FamilySearch PAF
- Family Origins
- Ancestral Quest
- Genes Reunited (GRUExport)
- Family Historian
- Easy Tree
- Gene
GEDCOM files from other software will most likely work too.
