View your Family Tree on Google Earth!
Have you ever tried to picture the travels and migration of your ancestors over the centuries? Trying to map it out by hand on paper can be quite a challenge if you have more than a few people in your tree!
Computer mapping tools such as Google Earth allow you to place markers and lines onto a globe to illustrate geographical locations and movements. This can be a useful tool to those researching their family tree and provides a method of sharing this information easily with friends, family and fellow researchers. It is still quite an effort though, when you wish to plot out the events for tens, hundreds or even thousands of individuals!
Map My Ancestors automates this process and transforms your existing Family Tree into an interactive map that your friends and relations can view using the powerful mapping capabilities of Google Earth and Google Maps.
Map My Ancestors takes the hard work out of plotting your data by using a process called geocoding to automatically locate the places referenced in your family tree. We recognise that Geocoders are not perfect, particularly when dealing with historical place names, so Map My Ancestors allows you to easily amend any location. Use the Google Earth timespan slider to highlight a particular period of history and watch your family history unfold...
Why not download a copy now? If, after 30 days, you want to keep it just activate it via the Purchase option on this website.
Map My Ancestors includes a facility to export all your Family Tree places to your favourite GPS and Sat Nav formats. Tom Tom (OV2), Garmin (GPX), Navman (CSV) and Navigon (CSV) POI (Points Of Interest) files are supported. Get your Sat Nav to alert you when you are driving near significant places from your Family Tree!
Navigate your family's relations in Google Earth by using the links to parents, spouses and children! Map My Ancestors can produce tags for each marker which provide links to the geographical places in the lives of their immediate relations. So, for example, clicking on the name of the mother will cause Google Earth to navigate to the location of the first event in the mother's life.
If you have installed Google Earth already click here to view a tree with this feature. Don't forget to drag the right hand side of the time span slider fully to the right to see the whole tree.
